In 2016, a small but mighty group of Stockton 'boomerangs' and newcomers created Third City Coalition, a volunteer-driven initiative to bring people together in the heart of the city. Since then, we’ve moved from ideas to action. Today we manage a portfolio of place-based events and projects to build an intersectional network of collaborators.
PURPOSE
Third City Coalition exists to drive positive change throughout the city and create spaces for our diverse communities to come together in unity. Every Stocktonian will need to roll up their sleeves and learn to work together to solve our most complex issues. We do this to honor the legacy of all those who have come before us, for those who work with us today as we build a community where no one is left behind and everyone belongs, and for future Stocktonians so that they will share our love of place and have the tools, knowledge, and agency to step up and lead.
MISSION
Third City Coalition was founded with the understanding that places like Stockton are not alone in the struggle to find a path forward. Long-standing economic, social, and environmental challenges have deeply impacted the quality of life for many in Stockton. But we believe that when we step out of our comfort zone, think creatively about issues, and engage in honest and open-minded exchange, we can co-create viable solutions. We believe that we can design our communities in ways that prioritize people and our planet so future generations will prosper.
FOUR PILLARS
All of our work is organized into one or more of the following concepts.
Documenting and retelling an inclusive historical record as a way of changing the narrative and building civic pride.
Creating a platform of shared spaces for learning about civic issues.
Supporting and empowering neighborhood advocates who work to improve Stockton.
Cultivating opportunities to invest in our people.
