It's no secret that we love the work of Jane Jacobs, whose birthday coincides with our founding. To celebrate, we have joined forces with Jane's Walk to offer citizen-led walking tours for community-based city building in Stockton.
Inspired by Jacobs, these walks:
- connect people to the places they live, work, and play
- convene conversation and highlight different voices and perspectives
- hold space for people to exercise power and agency as active, engaged members of their community
- dismantle walls created by distance, difference, and apathy
- foster civic leadership
For 2018, our goal is to lead 9 walks beginning in the month of March in 3 different neighborhoods, kicking off the first walk on March 3rd in the Little Manila Historic District in beautiful downtown Stockton. On our walk, we will observe and study Jane's 10 Big Ideas in action (go to http://bit.ly/janeswalk17 to learn more).
These walks are totally free of charge, 100% community-led, and are meant to give you the tools you need to engage in meaningful conversation and action in your neighborhood - to share stories about their communities, explore their cities, and connect with others.
